Current global trends are forecasting that above 60% of the population will be urbanized by 2065. This calls for undivided attention in preparation of the urban areas to accommodate this prospective growth. Thus, provision of requisite infrastructure, improvement of service delivery and enhancement of administrative structures is of paramount essence.

The constitutional provisions that led to devolution were a great blessing for the growth and development of the whole Country. To be specific, the County of Embu has made tremendous developmental strides as a beneficiary of devolution. The subsequent establishment of Municipalities in fulfilment of the constitutional demands through enactment of Urban Areas and Cities Act 2011 saw the birth of the Municipality of Embu.

Since inception, the Municipality of Embu has transformed the ambience of the main economic hub in the Central-Eastern region, improved transport infrastructure, which is pivotal in leveraging the economic wellbeing of the community, enhanced connectivity through opening up of corridors in the residential estates, modernized the market spaces and improved the storm water drainage infrastructure, among other developments. This has for sure depicted the Municipality as a critical cog in the County’s endeavours to satisfy its promises to the Embu residents

Upon issuance of the Charter in 2018, the Municipality of Embu has effectively transformed Embu town and its environs to achieve the current economic vibrancy.
